HIV and AIDS Outreach Campaign By Iyk-Anthony Foundation

December 1st of every year is observed as World Aids Day, a day set aside to create awareness around HIV and AIDS issues and to celebrate global effort towards combating the disease.

Of the 37.9 million people living with HIV at the end of 2018, 79% received testing, 62% received treatment, and 53% had achieved suppression of the HIV virus with reduced risk of infecting others says WHO.

 

HIV and AIDS Prevention

 

The above success story was made possible through the contribution of thousands of community health workers and members of the HIV and key population networks many of whom are living with HIV or affected by the epidemic. The theme of this year’s event is “Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: Community by Community.”

Combating the HIV and AIDS  pandemic is this part of the world requires community effort and this is what Iyk Anthony Foundation is doing alongside other sister organizations.

To mark the World Aids 2019, Iyk Anthony Foundation took the HIV and AIDS campaign to the doorsteps of the leaders of tomorrow, by organizing a one day HIV/AIDS awareness campaign / free HIV community testing/Counseling at Akwakuma girls secondary school, Owerri, Imo State.

Over 500 students of the school turned out for the program which was lead by our team Medical Scientist Miss Queeneth. During the event over 421 students were counselled while another 84 persons were screened, for HIV and AIDS.

 

HIV and AIDS Stigmatization

Earlier Mrs Ngozi Okonkwo the school principal received our team and expressed her profound gratitude for choosing her school for such a program.

The event came to an end with Q & A session organized for the students with gift items (Sanitary Pads etc ) going to the students who answered questions correctly based on the event.
